The Gold Girl
I once heard a story about a small girl
"Who picked up the ground below her feet
And burrowed deep down far beneath
To find the gold she knew was there -
She took the time and searched with care -
And when she found it black as rock,
She was not sad or filled with shock,
She knew exactly what to do -
"Just wait until the gold seed grew!"
Back to the surface she scurried with care
And found an ostrich waiting there,
He'd stuck his head down in the hole
To watch the strange gold digging girl.
"That's all you've got?" the old bird gawked,
"Not much to see - no, not a lot!"
The gold girl giggled gleefully
And ran on past him wild and free.
She skipped and scampered to the woods
And in she plunged as if she should -
Therein she found the circle of light,
The place she'd danced and learned of flight.
A hole had already been dug
And there she wrapped the gold rock snug,
But made quite sure to leave unhid
A surface for light that was not quite big.
She danced and sang the Song of Love
To help it grow high up above
All the old trees until soon there stood tall
A ladder of gold reaching higher than all.
She started to climb with a click and a clack
All the way up to heaven and never looked back."
This may seem like a mystery to you and to me
But I promise you now if you're open to see -
There's a truth hidden deep in this child's history,
And I know that you'll find it if ever you seek.
