She's Learning to Lean

It is in my dependence on Jesus that I find true release from my striving.

Jesus is drawn to my weakness. He loves it when I can't live one moment without him.

Abiding in him means each moment leaning on my beloved as I walk through this wasteland.

"Who is that coming up from the wilderness leaning on her beloved?" Song of Solomon 8:5

It is she who has learned a secret.

She's learned that it's not about doing things "for" her Savior and King... It's about letting her Beloved carry her through it all and letting him do everything through her.

It's scandalous and that's why it's offensive to her religious heart. But it's freedom to her shame and inability.

He holds her up when she can't bare the load.

He shoulders the burden that she carries.

She picks up her cross, but they are his arms that bare the weight.

It's scandalous and it's grace.

She is always trying to carry it herself - she wants to look so strong and capable.

But he watches and waits for that moment.

The moment she will let go and give up and give in to his love.

She wakes up in the morning ready to serve.

He waits for her to let him wash her feet.

She fights with all the strength she has, and barely makes a dent.

He steps into her and brings the strength - and all gets done so easily and well.

And when she finally lays down and cries out - "I can't go on" - he comes and teaches her to fly.

Moment by moment she tells him her secrets, and moment by moment he teaches her to love.

Hour by hour she releases her worries and fears, and hour by hour he teaches her to hope.

Day by day she throws herself at his mercy, and day by day he teaches her rest.

She didn't know it, by he's always wanted to be the strong one.

He always wanted to offer his strength for her weakness.

...his love for her shame.

...his abundance for her loss.

She didn't know it, but now she might...

That the only things he's ever wanted,

was for her to let him love her.
