Obedience to Love
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments." John 14:15. There is no other way to go deeper into the heart of the Most Beloved One - Jesus the Word of God - except to say Yes to whatever he asks of us.
Yes, he is a loving Father. Yes, he is the one who suffers by our side in mercy. But yes he is also an all consuming fire of pure, unhindered LOVE that must not be denied. We cannot deny him our everything - because even the smallest denial of this request is not the pure and "wholly" worship that he is after. He wants it ALL. And it is only when we finally give up trying to hold onto parts of our hearts, minds, souls, and bodies that his peace comes in and tells us this is the way it was meant to be.
And why would we not give him everything? Rebekah, why would you not give him everything? He is the only good thing - the only good One - who ever has been and who ever will always be. Saying yes to falling into him is to fall into perfect love, perfect joy, perfect peace.
Yes Lord, I will fall into you. With hands shaking and heart failing and pulse beating, beating, beating - I will follow you. I will raise myself up on these wobbling legs and I will run to you. Though I fall, I will get up again and I will reach for you with my everything.
Though the fire burns hotter and the pain pierces sharper than I can imagine, I will cast all doubt aside and I will come. You know that my very soul within me gives in when I think of all that could come - but I will not fear. It is a choice I have made and I will not let fear choke out my life, my faith, my love for you. You are so much more beautiful that the fears are terrible. I throw them off for the sake of love.
