How to Repay the Lord
"A God who cannot be served is a God who can only be enjoyed." -John Piper
Today I am trying to unwrap the mystery that I can do absolutely nothing for God.
The only response I can have to the God who gave me everything is the same response anyone would have to being given a trillion dollars. If someone did something so grand and overwhelmingly impossible for us, we would never turn around and immediately start trying to pay the money back the second we got it! We'd never be able to pay it back in a million years!!!
So all we could do would be to say thank you over and over and over again. Because not even our "thank yous" would be enough to repay the gift.
This is the way of "Repaying the Lord". We cannot, and so we should not try. All we can do in return for such a lavish gift He's given to us is to say thank you.
And then to go and enjoy the gift! And the gift is Himself.
This, Lord, is the response I desire to have towards you! To see the great gift you've given and to give you the only thing I can give you in return: my thanks and my love! And instead of always looking for ways to repay you, like a guilty thief, to just lay down my pride and enjoy the gift you've given to me!! I never want to be so proud as to refuse the gift or to try to earn it after it's been received. Teach me to be a gracious recipient of your endless grace and mercy and to simply take it all it with wonder and joy!
Yes, Amen. May this be the way you and I receive the impossible gift of grace from our Father. May we come to know just how free this gift really is.
